The Bay Bridge Under Moonlight

San Francisco, California

In July, we were back in the States and had a free weekend.
Since Monterey is usually fogged in during the summer, and we couldn't get a room in the Napa Valley, we headed up to 'the city by the bay'.

It ended up to be a lucky break, as we got two days of cloudless skies, and 90 degree temperatures.

Friday night - We met a Hindu taxi driver who recently learned the word motherfucker and is too happy to practice it on other drivers.
We then had an excellent Cambodian meal at Angkor Wat, followed by a few too many Cosmopolitans at the oh-so-cool Red Lounge - highly recommended.

Saturday - Recovering from Cosmopolitans, we wander around Union Square, stopping into Xanadu, a new ethnic art gallery housed in a Frank Lloyd Wright designed building. Wright was a god, and this building is brilliant.
Continuing through Chinatown, we ate at an Italian restaurant, window shopped on Union Street, then followed the bay breeze to the Marina.
We stood there and watched sailboats circle under the Golden Gate Bridge as the cool breeze and warm sun mixed a potent California Cocktail.

Behind us groups of fresh-faced, racially and gender mixed college students were having a picnic - looking like someone

John Bites!

Alcatraz and San Francisco

waved a wand and made a 'Gap' ad jump to life.

Sunday - We met our buddy John for clam chowder in a sourdough bowl (THE San Francisco specialty) on the pier.
We then hopped a ferry over to Angel Island and hiked around for some stunning views of the bay and the city.

We met another friend, Scott, for dinner at Betelnut, an excellent Asian restaurant on Union Street.

San Francisco at her best......
