Okinawan Shisa

One of the most distinctive features of Okinawa is the Shisa, a local variation of the Chinese-Japanese 'lion-dog'.

In Okinawa, the shisa comes in many varieties - small, big, male, female, serious, humorous, stone, clay, and in every possible color.

They appear, in one form or another, around most of the homes in Okinawa. Here's a look.
